El Lobo” (Danza de los Tecuanes)

A Doña Francisca la trajo su hija hace 12 años a Minnesota y ahora es ciudadana. En Axochiapan, Morelos, se celebra cada año del 20 al 28 de enero la feria en honor a San Pablo Apóstol. Es la fiesta más bonita de su pueblo y la preferida de doña Francisca. Es una celebración que la llena de orgullo porque son sus raíces. En las fiestas tiene lugar la danza de los Tecuanes. Tecuani es jaguar en Náhuatl. Hoy en día “el lobo” ya no se representa como un jaguar. Este “lobo” se lo regaló un diputado a doña Francisca.

Doña Francisca was brought to Minnesota by her daughter 12 years ago and now she is a citizen. In Axochiapan, Morelos, the fair is held every year from January 20th to 28th in honor of Saint Paul the Apostle. It is the most beautiful holiday of her town and doña Francisca’s favorite. It is a celebration that fills her with pride; those are her roots. During the festivities, the Tecuanes Dance takes place. Tecuani means jaguar in Náhuatl. Today “the wolf” is no longer rep- resented as a jaguar. This “wolf” was a gift to doña Francisca by a deputy.
